Expanding Aging in Place Services to Council Bluffs with support from the Iowa West Foundation

An elderly woman, wearing a floral dress and apron, washes carrots at a kitchen sink with an aloe plant on the windowsill. The scene feels serene and homey.

At HomeWoven, we recognize that every individual is essential to building a vibrant community. Our work is rooted in the belief that housing is more than a structure; It is the foundation of stability, dignity, and connection. That’s why we are committed to providing an interwoven network of support to older adults and lower-income homeowners who contribute immensely to our neighborhoods and greater community.

Thanks to the generous support of the Iowa West Foundation, HomeWoven is expanding our Aging in Place Services into Council Bluffs, Iowa. This milestone means more older adults will have the ability to remain in their homes safely, securely, and independently, while continuing to enrich the neighborhoods they’ve called home for decades.

Why Aging in Place Matters in Council Bluffs

Homes naturally age along with the people who live in them. For older adults in Council Bluffs, the cost of necessary updates—such as roof repairs, plumbing improvements, or accessibility modifications like ramps and grab bars—can be overwhelming on a fixed income. Without these repairs, many face unsafe living conditions or the prospect of leaving the community they love.

By expanding our services across the river, HomeWoven ensures that older adults in Council Bluffs can:

  • Stay safe at home with critical repairs and updates

  • Preserve independence by reducing fall risks and improving accessibility

  • Thrive within their homes with a sense of stability and pride

  • Establish longstanding roots that foster generational wealth and independence

Powered by Partnership: Iowa West Foundation

This expansion would not be possible without the Iowa West Foundation, whose commitment to housing equity and quality of life continues to transform lives throughout Pottawattamie County. Their investment ensures that some of our most susceptible neighbors—those often overlooked—receive the support needed to maintain safe, functional homes.

Together, we are embracing the interconnectedness of our community and investing in a stronger, more inclusive future.

Looking Ahead

Through our homeownership and home repair programs, HomeWoven champions the dreams of individuals and families by fostering a sense of place and purpose. With well-maintained, accessible homes, our neighbors not only remain in the community—they flourish within it.

This expansion into Council Bluffs is only the beginning. By working alongside the Iowa West Foundation and other community partners, we will continue to build an environment where every person has the opportunity to thrive in a home they can truly call their own.
