Keeping Neighbors Home: Our Home Preservation Program
To our clients, a home is more than four walls and a roof. It's where a family builds their life, where an older adult ages in familiar surroundings, where a newly arrived family puts down roots and where people overcome historic barriers to build a legacy of generational wealth.
Home Preservation
Our Home Preservation Program provides homeowners with the repairs and modifications they need to stay safely in their homes, at no cost to them. We assess each home to identify hazards and partner with area licensed contractors and trained professionals to complete the work. Common repairs include plumbing, flooring, broken doors or windows, weatherization, HVAC and accessibility upgrades like grab bars and walk-in bath tub conversions. No two homes are the same, and we work with each client individually to determine what's needed.
The program is organized into three distinct service areas, each designed to meet a specific community where it is.
Aging in Place
For many older adults, the goal is simple: remain in their home safely and independently. But as their physical needs change and houses age, that can become complicated and repairs that once felt manageable begin to pile up.
Our Aging in Place Services exist to address these challenges. We provide no-cost accessibility modifications and essential repairs, such as grab bar installation, walk-in showers, handrails, non-slip flooring and more. The goal is to reduce fall risks, eliminate household hazards and help older adults live safely and independently for as long as possible. With the modifications our experts provide, older adults and their families have peace of mind moving into the future.
Immigrant and Refugee Home Repair
Moving to a new country and achieving the dream of homeownership are acts of determination. Navigating the housing system, understanding what repairs are needed and finding trustworthy professionals to complete them can be uniquely difficult for New American families. Language barriers, cultural differences and limited access to financial resources often leave critical needs unaddressed.
Our Immigrant and Refugee Home Repair Services are designed to meet those needs by providing no-cost, essential repairs and safety modifications. This supports immigrant and refugee homeowners in having confidence in the homes where they are building their lives and can pass on to future generations.
Greenlining Home Improvement
In cities across the United States, many neighborhoods have faced decades of disinvestment. In Omaha, policies left certain areas with aging housing stock, reduced home values, limited access to financing and fewer resources to maintain the homes people have worked hard to own.
Our Greenlining Home Improvement Services, offered in partnership with Front Porch Investments, are a direct response to that reality. We provide no-cost, critical repairs and safety upgrades to homeowners with low to moderate incomes in under-resourced neighborhoods, helping preserve existing housing, reduce displacement and support the generational wealth that stable homeownership promotes.
